Clarification: “Old” is relative. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s trying to work out how to learn from younger people. Inspired by: https://twitter.com/MalekaMomand/status/1160722584847233026 …

Yeah, I self-identify as old now. Or maybe firmly middle age. I don't try to learn from young people at all. I just try to get out of their way. Been trying to focus on the interesting thinking that being 44 uniquely enables. Thoughts I can think now I couldn't before.

Interesting! And happy to hear you’re doubling down on your comparative advantage. But don’t you worry that you’re missing signal that only the kiddos can pick up?

        - believe anyone can be a teacher (I’ve learned a lot from my toddler son) - be open to perspectives and build paths for info to get to you (follow folks, culture blogs) - urban dictionary for when I don’t understand an unfamiliar word :)

My only strategy is to listen as carefully as I can.

For me it starts with respect. Younger people will have less accumulated knowledge than me, there’s no way around that. But if I don’t dismiss them as naive, I can still learn a lot.

Same as anything or anyone else, just get curious about how they work.

My most impactful strategy is making sure I regularly interact with younger people. I’m 37, and want to have friends that are 20 (and 50). The rest is just normal interesting conversations.
