I’m pretty sure I get it, but I wouldn’t mind hearing what you think is the appeal/dynamic of shitposting. I am religiously on team seriouspost (“effortpost”?), and mostly want to read others’ serious stuff.

Here’s a stab: Shitposting is like casual hanging out with friends. Whereas effortposting is going to a formal dinner party and sharing your “considered thoughts.” (I don’t like what this implies about my taste for effortposting....)

      Is shitposting short for shooting-the-shitposting?

my personal bent is toward serious posting but it’s nice to strike a balance (or try to, anyway). feel like more personality comes through in shit posts, and also it’s important to remind yourself (and others?) not to take it all too seriously every once in awhile..

I think of shitposting as "serious-breaking" – the point is to shake off tedious solemnity, to avoid getting too calcified, too attached to the roles we play. gotta keep the eddy flowin'https://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1105882890846404608 …

There are ~3 kinds of @visakanv content - nerdposting to learn, track & explore interesting things (includes metaposting like this) - kindposting to make friends + establish the culture (includes telling personal stories) - shitposting for fun + avoid taking self too seriously pic.twitter.com/dmy3u8BYTF
