I spent the day photographing the fossil fuel interests here in North Dakota. They are beautiful. In a decade North Dakotans added the equivalent of Libya's oil production capacity. Glorious, to be treasured, celebrated.pic.twitter.com/l5wgvLvDdd

Can you say more about the beauty? What makes it enchanting? (Asking because I so rarely hear people talk about fossil fuels with positive emotions. It’s usually all anxiety and disgust.)
It’s not that the photo isn’t beautiful (it is)... more like it’s taboo to say anything nice about an oil field. I just wanted to hear someone wax poetic about fossil fuels and civilization :)
I have a soft spot for the physical reality of engineering. I come from a family of pipefitters, and have always admired the combination of science and craft that makes these systems work. I say this knowing the very real dangers of this work.pic.twitter.com/PH0qJwPaww
I’m an “engineer” (software) but somehow never quite managed to develop a visceral appreciation for mechanical/civil engineering work. That photo kinda does it for me though :) Thanks for sharing.
