for me, socializing relies on conscious OODA loops the loops are pretty fast these days but I manage them intentionally. letting my brain just do its own thing doesn't work very well I have heard that other people can socialize intuitively and I am jealous of their arcane power

yes, it jives with what my autistic friends have described how it works with me (not autistic): I can observe and understand _what_ people are feeling. I'm not bad at reading body language, although I'm best at it when I'm consciously reminding myself to pay attention. however

Whatever the metaphor, I find again and again that non-NT people have some of the most interesting perspective on social stuff. For NT peeps, it’s kinda invisible and taken for granted (fish/water). Whereas ppl who had to learn to “do it by hand” can explain it a lot better.
