An instinct I particularly hate:
Feeling the need to defend something I said just because *I* said it.
I recognize the wisdom in this. Unfortunately I've taken the other path: no longer having beliefs.

The older I get the more I think the only two models that should ever run into conflict are love and rationality. And even then very infrequently. At the point of conflict, one should inform the other. My firmest beliefs become squishy as I continue to learn and update.
