Depending on how you slice it, we have ~8 sensory systems: —Vision —Hearing —Touch —Taste —Smell —Vestibular (balance) —Interoception (internal organs) —Propriocetion (joints/muscles) Idea: modeling introspection as a 9th “sensory system” Is this stupid? Profound? Fruitful?

I think this is then a different problem, not about whether introspection is a form of perception, because otherwise you just get a weird sort of metaperception. A form of perception for perceiving that you are perceiving, etc. Seems like passing the buck

I would try to avoid any sort of concept of mental state though. It seems like in particular this leads to some sort of "mental state" object (eg. sense data, representation) between you and perceiving an object, from which you infer the existence of the object...
