What would I lose or gain if I tweaked this slightly?: “Differentiation on nearly any margin is correlated to the size of the economy.” Is “money” an important qualifier to “economy”?

That'd be a safer claim to remain neutral on the causes of economic complexity. My sympathies are with Simmel that monetization is the essential thing, but there are other things (e.g. state capacity, which I compare here: https://www.liberalcurrents.com/myth-and-modernity-a-review-of-persecution-and-toleration/ … ) that you could point to.

I'm skeptical, though, that economic complexity *as such* is the cause of differentiation, which seems to be a common-ish position in sociology.
