Just saw a baby have a tantrum meltdown in this pizzeria. I wish I had more insight into that. Don't understand what led to that outcome. Have no good model of toddler cognition.

Everyone is just trying to control the world. Kids come pre-wired with a "cry" move that often gets them what they want. Parents indulge for a long time, but then wean the kid off. Predictable result is to try maxing out the signal until it stops working entirely.
^^^ this kinda seems like a fancy way of saying something obvious though... can you put a finer point on your curiosity?

Sure. Some specific thing pushed the kid over from ordinary dissatisfied to full blown tantrum. I think it might have been some kind of reaction to his mother since we was distinctly crying out to his father for relief. I couldn't quite figure out what mom might have done though.
