But a *custom* onboarding program can work, because when a facilitator brings their own audience, they already share so much in common — interests, attitudes, context, etc. Importantly, an individual can bring taste and perspective to the onboarding process.

Nice ideas! I tried to do (1), (2), and (3) here: https://twitter.com/michael_nielsen/status/975884635535101952 … Oddly, despite being on Twitter, surprisingly many non-Twitter people have told me they read it and it helped encourage them to become more active or even to join.

Wow, that was great... not sure how I missed it the first time around!

“Community” is the wrong word. I used the “airport” metaphor for refactor damp recently, and in the same sprit, this is like a happening downtown or mall where paths cross. I wouldn’t run the program your way. That’s better suited for closed subcultural scenes.

How would you run it

I wrote a "how to 'get' twitter" guide a while back with similar advice that individual people can do (one tip: don't follow celebrities, but do find one or two people who seem to "get" twitter in your niche and follow whoever they follow)https://medium.com/@gretchenamcc/how-to-go-from-i-just-don-t-get-twitter-to-twitter-maven-in-30-days-bdbab2ad7783 …

I also ran a class through a twitter account (
@LingComm), used the "following" list of the account as a "who to follow" guide, and had the students post in the course hashtag and follow each other to start building community

As a company we basically live on Twitter and we’re considering having recommended follow lists for different teams.

One of the thing's i'd love would be to label meta tweets by topic and then have the ability to search these topics - Finding a collection of different views, on the same topic in the one place is one of the best things about twitter (imo).

You’re asking unpaid users, whose data Twitter ALREADY makes millions from, to give Twitter
#Freelabor for a labor intensive job.#Exploitation. This is t/responsibility of whatever division oversees HELP & SUPPORT. Pitch this to those VPs & get the funding to pay people. -
Idealism sure is nice. Sometimes it simply doesn’t work, though. Knowing how Twitter operates and what their priorities are, do you think there would be more than a 0.001% of this idea happening on these grounds?
