Once you get past the misconceptions, though, there are still huge hurdles for new users. The two biggest ones, IMO, are: (A) How to find good communities; and (B) How to actually *use* Twitter — i.e., what to do in the open-ended playground

So that's the basic idea. Now, why don't *I* run this kind of program? In short: I'm bad at facilitating community. I could probably make a decent stab at it, but it would take me a lot of emotional energy that I just don't have these days. But I do think it's a great idea!

Anyway, thanks for letting me get that off my mind. LMK if you've heard of anyone doing something similar! I'd be curious to hear how it went. And please share any riffs on this idea and/or positive suggestions for improvement.

Seems like people think this could be useful for existing users as well. I like
@bracht’s description of it, as helping people move from bad Twitter neighborhoods to good oneshttps://twitter.com/bracht/status/1147578017360830467?s=21 …Show this thread

What about a “welcome to Twitter” account? Part of onboarding is to tweet an intro to this account, which gets retweeted? If many in community follow such an account, easy to pick up existing users too.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I think the initial difficulty of getting people to look at your account discourages many people from doing their best work; in other words, that you're right to identify this as the crux of the matter: it's hard to get rubber-stamped as a new user.pic.twitter.com/OHnDiFi6F9

Facebook, though it has a lot of other problems, probably forms better semi-closed communities with groups– maybe a List function maintained by a small, loose committee would be Twitter's best approximation? Just a thought.
