I have a friend who explored something similar while working at Facebook. IIRC the limiting factor is how hard it is to teach people how to use these kinds of advanced features. They get confused. We’re power users and the product just isn’t optimized for us :(
yeah, admittedly relying on people to categorize themselves is a weakness of the idea
i feel like there's some middleground between creepy-ML categorization though, like it could let other people crowdsource categories when they click "i don't want to see this" or something, but that will also never happen even if it's not a perfect idea
