i'm optimistic about some limited inevitability on a long-enough timeline but incredibly pessimistic about the timeline. like, several orders of global civilizational boom/bust cycles at *least*, assuming we don't wipe ourselves off the planet first

In some ways, that's the biggest benefit, isn't it? It makes us more resilient to extinction events. Definitely in the "important but not urgent" quadrant, though, I guess. Hopefully.
