For the record, I’m in favor of all/most forms of technological progress. I just don’t think it makes economic sense to colonize Mars! If A says, “Let’s colonize the Sun,” and B says, “That’s ridiculous,” would you accuse B of being anti-progress?

It might be a hell of a lot cheaper, but colonizing Antarctica does nothing for insuring humanity's continuation in case of a planetwide extinction event.
