Here’s a weird one for you: I wish I could talk about all that’s wrong with modern/compulsory education. But I have too many feelings and don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said better by others. Instead, a request ⇊
Yeah that was the first facet of the problem that I perceived. I was a fast-moving kid who was being slowed down by the pace of the curriculum. As I think about what to do with my own (future) kids, though, I see many other potential problems.

E.g., school seems especially brutal for kids who aren’t good at, or who aren’t motivated by, decontextualized book learning. The system labels these kids as “dumb” and gets them to internalize that label! So destructive :( :(

For sure. Maybe more broadly said is: we need a heterogeneous product for heterogeneous preferences/abilities? leads to the problem where you only run n ~= 2 experiments as a parent where research results speak to covariate bin prly much unlike your child
