For all of the awful things one can name (and there are many) one has to ask "can we be 100% sure that this is avoidable, assuming that the demands that education is trying to meet and the people it has available given those demands are both not going to change?"

The thing that changed is that I spent 3 months working on curriculum and tool development at a school. I now more feel that the way school works is an awful, but mostly inevitable, conclusion of its stated goals being pursued given the resources/environment it finds itself in
