Modern schools are a collateral effect of the standardization of work shifts that happened in the industrial revolution. They're also detrimental unfortunately, see Bloom's 2 sigma problem. Hopefully as work hours change, schools follow suit. Hopefully.
yikes I didn’t know about the two sigma thing... that’s a HUGE effect can you elaborate on the work hours thing?

When industrialization set in, the most efficient industries had large amounts of workers synced in tasks during a set amount of time. This model was replicated in schools.
