Here’s a weird one for you: I wish I could talk about all that’s wrong with modern/compulsory education. But I have too many feelings and don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said better by others. Instead, a request ⇊

Two thoughts: - I didn't miss much from an educational POV by being home-schooled (effectively unschooled) for all of middle school. - Schooling isn't nearly as oppressive as the job markets offering limited prospects for advancement which many people encounter afterwards.
-
can you elaborate on your second bullet?

Could not agree more. Been reflecting a lot on how I would want my kids to get an education (I have no kids rn) and my favorite option so far is find a tribe of ppl who think this way and come up with our own version of school

yeah i’ve thought about trying to find a small group of people to homeschool with... so hard to forge your own path though! see alsohttps://twitter.com/utotranslucence/status/1141896739332341760?s=21 …

would gladly join a ~smallish cohort of bay area residents interested in home-school-villaging childrenhttps://twitter.com/utotranslucence/status/1142150399186493440 … -
imo the biggest misses in modern education are currently: limited personalization (student : teacher ratios too large) & lack of real-world impact w/ projects
