If you’re on the same page — that there’s something inhumane about what we do to kids in school — just like this tweet (or reply and say hi) so I know who’s in the same headspace as me. If you have thoughts to share (from yourself or others), even better.

The energy you find in so few words is wonderful. So positive. Not that this hasn't been said, but... Heterogeneity in ability is enormous. Look at sports. Reset the norm: let many more students advance way faster. We all have a comparative advantage.

Yeah that was the first facet of the problem that I perceived. I was a fast-moving kid who was being slowed down by the pace of the curriculum. As I think about what to do with my own (future) kids, though, I see many other potential problems.

Historically rich folk would hire individual tutors for their kids. I wonder what their experience was like and whether tech could deliver a similar experience for cheap as in other areas.

I think “compulsory education” ought to sound about as absurd as “compulsory joy”.

i really like this sentiment also it’s kind of perverse that “educate” is a transitive verb

Here. Here. I can look back on so many points in my schooling where a negative emotion basically shut the door to whole areas of knowledge/experience. We’re starting our own school. Primary goal is to keep kids curiosity and desire to learn alive.
