yup, essentially. air on the rising part of the wave, cools as it rises, brings temperature down, closer to dewpoint = clouds

Like, do gravity waves happen in the atmosphere in ways that don’t show up with clouds?

and yes, definitely. even in the rising parts, the air still cools but if it's too dry, no clouds.
