it pains me, but I think it might be a good idea to close my DMs (so that only mutuals can message me) I feel pretty sad about getting to the point where there are more requests for my attention than I have attention to give... although obviously that comes with benefits as well

I decided to close my DMs recently and it made me sad, like I was letting down an idealistic version of myself. But also, I just can’t?

I can't bring myself to ignore incoming messages that aren't obviously spam... (or abusive, but that hasn't happened to me). So it's more effective, in terms of my time and energy, to filter them out in the first place. But yeah... I feel bad about that =/

As someone who has always wanted a good reason to DM you, I want you to know this: you have nothing to feel bad about, it is a gift that you had your DMs open in the first place, and it's a gift that you're still providing us an insight into your perspective.

Sorry, I don't mean for that to sound sycophantic, but you're a good person who I don't want to feel bad for this.
