The English language doesn't really seem to have a word for when you are arguing with someone but with mutual explicit goal of reaching consensus.
Debate seems more about beating then
Argument about adversarial

"thinking towards convergence" is a great phrase. But I think Newton's method is totally the wrong metaphor! And for very interesting reasons....
