Question for people with multiple Twitter accounts: How do your experiences differ between your alt(s) and your main (if you have one)? Which do you spend more time on? I’d love to hear from either type of account — or, if you’re feeling frisky, from both :)

main is safe, boring, professional. I use it pretty much only to retweet interesting papers or share my own work, and don’t pay a lot of attention to it these days

I abandoned my walletnym account because it was seeded with professional contacts, and when they stopped talking tech and started talking politics, it turned to garbage. Now I only follow people I find interesting or amusing, and I can comment on whatever without worrying.

Interesting. I've been thinking of having a second account but so far everything that I tweet is "on brand" enough that it seems more hassle than it is worth.

Reminds me that Fernando Pessoa is said to have had more than 70 pseudonyms during his lifetime. Pessoa felt that he was a different person writing under each name and the term pseudonym didn't do justice to that fact. Perhaps having multiple twitter accounts would be more just!

I have so many accounts I can't keep track of them. This one is the best.

People with only one Twitter account: how do you manage to cram so many facets of your social existence into a single identity?

This is going to be a long reply I have to write elsewhere. This dynamic has changed as I've had the same dual accounts for almost a decade. You do hear from my main. I'll talk to others from both, but I'm always curious if people know or remember.

all I can tell you is that the experiences *are* different, and depends on the nature of the accounts and how much they all differ. you get back what you tweet, like and retweet.
