@sonyaellenmann alright sonya, question for you and/or any of our mutual followers:
what’s the deal with the “become good” slogan? backstory, connotations, etc.?
i feel like it’s a “✓ ingroup” thing that i never entirely picked up on

Oh so it’s an unironic exhortation. Kinda like effective altruism or becoming “less wrong”... Very devious, playing it that straight. These kids keep finding ways to surprise me

I've noticed that you have an interesting relationship to earnest sincerity in general. Is it something like... you don't think people can actually take it at face value anymore, so if you want to actually communicate anything you have to go further?

Or maybe more like... it's so cheap a signal that anyone bothering to use it is revealing themselves to be hopelessly naive?

Something like that. I take sincerity seriously when it is backed up by a history of relevant scars. Idealism is only as good as scarring it has survived without turning into cynicism. Eg: A veteran clean cop in a dirty city saying he still believes in goodness of human nature.
