I always translate this into sibyl attack prevention and aposematic camouflage among animals. Or more specifically, the impact of costly signaling behavior (the root of the 'performative' beliefs?) and it's impact on cooperation. IIRC loyalty ~about iterated games in this domain.

There's a phenomena among Asch conformity experiments + illusions where people's perceptions can be socially mediated (doesn't happen much in autistics.)
