Yes! I like to joke that there are basically two communication styles: those that believe in “Fierce Conversations,” or “Nonviolent Communication.” The former is based in confrontation/debate/“tough love,” the latter in identifying, understanding, and addressing needs.
i have so much respect for Fierce people and learn a lot from them (very grateful for the valuable service they provide), but my strong preference is to learn from (and with!) NVC ppl

I enjoy Fierce people in their burst of courage and competence to upend the status quo and for special occasions, and NVC people for generally long, unbreaking periods of exploratory time that passes without notice, and whose culture-shifting effects are incidental.
