On @KevinSimler’s recommendation I listened to this Zeihan podcast on our geopolitical future and it genuinely blew my mind
I listened four times (and counting)
It’s the most contrarian thinking I’ve experienced in recent memoryhttps://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/invest-like-the-best/id1154105909?mt=2&i=1000431119375 …

Really glad to hear you describe this as contrarian! My Irish coworker was giving me shit today for how pro-American it is, and I tried to explain how almost everything I consume is somehow super down on America. So yeah, it was really refreshing for me too

I'm sure Zeihan's analysis is flawed in all sorts of ways, but I learned quite a few things that astonished me (and that I somehow never learned elsewhere). E.g., that the US is less dependent on international trade than just about every other nation

Oh also that China can’t feed itself (?) and their major food producing region is facing desertification

Parallels to the dust bowl Great Plains in the 30's though - desertification there was (kinda) reversed through big agritech efforts. Now he's talking about the Great Plains as the US food bowl, but 80 years ago they were the epicenter of the ag Great Depression
