I'm still not sure I understand what EGO actually is. An org has to grow in order to meet its people's expectations of personal advancement? But that sounds backwards: an org grows to meet external demands, and people hop on top of that, obtaining personal advancement.
Its growth isn't run by internal pressures, or at least not exclusively. At some point, growth-space is exhausted, and yes, then the people are "stuck". But then they move to another org, or remain at the same org and just... don't advance anymore.
