i have a lot to say and don’t know where to start just kidding i know: it starts with spaced repetition software (at least for me). my goal has been to knuckle down and actually _learn_ some history, rather than simply letting it was over me (as i’d been doing for years)

plus we have more history now than any point in history

one question i’ve always wondered about is: for each historical period, when was it best understood by the people motivated to learn about it? e.g. arguably we know more about the 90s now than we did in 2000. But we know less about the Roman Republic than Livy did... (I think?)
