Generally speaking, whom do you admire more: the person who initially conceives an invention, or the person who perfects it?

What I find especially interesting is that whole cultures can skew to one side or the other. E.g., the ancient Greeks had more respect for ideators, whereas the Romans admired perfecters. See also academia vs. industry.

As one example, Kardashian became famous for being famous. Or, many are celebrating Musk as the founder of Tesla, even though he didn’t found it (he bought it). I’m under the impression that many judge based on the judgment of others rather than through independent thinking.

ahh, yes, that probably accounts for most "admiration" — and make you wonder how much the occasional independent assessment/uncorrelated opinion actually matters
