I think we still do but we construct the narrative (more) individually.

However much we talk about algorithmic influence, people seem to have a size of leverage unprecedented in the 20th century in how much we can construct and then be serviced by our "own" preferred narratives. The great shift of our time in my view is this new node-based system.
