I've always liked @RichardDawkins "The Selfish Gene".
But in defending the book's moral implications, Dawkins suggests that humans are free to choose ethics contrary to our genetics.
I've never liked nor accepted this answer. It suggests that morality is doomed to extinction.

Great thread but I'm afraid you are missing Dawkins assertion that left alone, Genes have no concern or concept of morality. The objective is reproduction and it's the singular mission.
