@KevinSimler Found myself perusing your science as spirituality stuff. A small thought: Religion has absurd beliefs to create commitment and boundaries. But so does science—it's just that those beliefs are always moving.

"The Earth goes around the Sun" is absurd, and embracing it ahead of the curve demonstrates commitment to the scientific worldview. Science could then be seen as an endless manufacturer of shibboleths.

yeah totally. One problem is that, in some cases, people believe scientific claims for reasons _other_ than their use as shibboleths — i.e., for navigating the world. So they're not pure badges. But for most people, most of the time, that's probably how they function.
