Hey Twitter, instead of a mute button, how about an adjustable volume knob?pic.twitter.com/Wt2i7sv96u

This is one of my bigger frustrations with this site — high-volume tweeters who drown out low-volume tweeters. I genuinely enjoy following these people. They just talk too much. So I end up muting a lot of them. But I wish I didn't have to.

I’ve often thought about writing my own client just so I could have this feature. Wouldn’t even need a client. Just make a separate account that retweets the people you’re interested in once they cross your threshold, and follow that aggregated account.

haha, yes! (And meanwhile, it would pollute their feeds with retweet notifications ;)

I’ve also hoped Twitter might give tweeters the opportunity to put things into categories/buckets/channels. I could tweet about a wide variety of topics, even mundane stuff, with the confidence that followers who are only interested in X will just deselect the other channels.

I use Tweetbot’s “mute for a week” or “for a month”: it gives me a break from them, then they show up again for a while, until I mute them again. But I agree with your suggestion.

You can solve this either by turning the volume down or up. I have a Twitter list of people who I want to see more of - it’s a mix of friends, low volume / high value tweeters, and a few accounts I find highly interesting. It’s the leftmost column in my Tweetdeck

Oh yeah! I used to do the exact same thing — a "faves" column, regular column, and "noisy" column. But then I stopped using Tweetdeck. Maybe I should get back to it?!

I use Tweetdeck on desktop a few times per day, which lets me ‘catch up’ on my Friends column; on mobile I just let the noise wash over me and rely on algorithmic serendipity

You can mute an account's retweets and see only their original tweets, which I find useful for a lot of high volume accounts.

Good point! I do use this on occasion. Unfortunately I follow a number of high-volume accounts who mostly tweet their own content =/

Other important setting: Disable "Show me the best Tweets first" (I treat twitter like email) Dilemma: How would you pick which tweets to see from a high vol acct? Based on likes/retweets? IOW let other people decide what's important? Isn't that what reddit is for?

“Low volume” could be “only show his posts which have been liked by at least a following of mine”.

That would be great. But the “quality” and other variables set by the user. As in, daily tweet limits, batch all at once & bn certain times, amount of engagement, engagement from certain accounts, etc

This is valuable! Something that you could do today, is click on the caret options for a tweet and click “show less often”. This will give you the option of showing fewer tweets from the author!

There should be a custom setting to see fewer tweets from specific users. So I don't have to unfollow very prolific tweeters, but just see their most popular tweets.
