I'd be interested in any thoughts on whether this framework makes sense. I'm particularly trying to tease out a difference between a Messiah and a God. A God seems to be subject to some kind of limitlessly compounding prestige.
This is exactly in line with my thinking and is extremely succinct and well-put. I don’t have much to add! One small thought: Rather than “limitlessly compounding,” I might say that a God is a self-sustaining locus (Schelling point) for a prestige economy.
But I dunno, maybe there’s something to “limitlessly compounding.” The Christian idea of “all glory to God” has always been fascinating to me. Somehow I earn micro-economy prestige by paying tribute to God!
Yeah, it seems to me that normally, secondary prestige hits limits. If you suck up just because other people are, you get classified as a fake. But in the case of a God, some other dynamic is kicking in, I think.
