Any particular text to speech app you recommend?
I just use the one that comes built into OS X
I also use text-to-speech to create an mp3 of talks I’m giving to help me learn them while I’m walking on my commute.

Better than reading it out loud?
Yes. Your brain will autocorrect things when reading aloud that a TTS engine won’t. It’s far easier to notice certain kinds of errors audibly than in text, regardless of whether you read the text silently or aloud.
It's true, I use screen readers all the time as part of my job and I catch text errors I missed on my first pass.
