not sure what os you use but os x has this built in. i have a keyboard shortcut for it, and use the british or australian voice (which isn’t as much in the uncanny valley to my ears)

I use that sometimes too, but I want text-to-speech most often for longform stuff (helps me keep focus even if I look away for 10 seconds). The macOS shortcut requires I highlight and play. No pause. No easy speed change. No rewind 30 seconds.

I’ve been thinking more and more btw that actually using this macOS API well, adding features I mentioned, scrubbing text better, and highlighting text may be a great one person software product
