The essence of systems thinking: Every persistent biological or cultural structure exists because of a positive feedback loop. Sometimes it’s hard to see. But to understand the structure, you must understand the loop.
I was thinking like mountains and interstellar gas and stuff. I don’t see any feedback loops there (but could be missing something because I don’t think about purely physical things as much).

I think gravity can establishes a positive feedback loop: the more there is the more gets pulled. think of: cosmic gas—>stars—>black holes. I am not an expert but when i saw the “cosmic web” (max. zoomed out view of the known universe) i thought “wow, there’s gotta be feedback”

Mntns: their uplift is based on pos. loop of the local ground mass escaping upward two-side pressure from tectonic plates. Stabilizing force: Weaker/later-onset negative loop of erosion (water, wind, ice), & ultimately its own gravity beginning to limit its total height.

Need to specify which property of interst. gas is to be modeled. E.g. temp&density, 3-phase equilibrium model: cold dense phase (T <300 K), warm intercloud phase (T ~104 K). 3rd phase, v. hot (T ~106 K) gas. External forces and internal gravity (contraction) may stab. or shift it
