The report on racial disparity came as no surprise given the history of those involved. It has a few useful things to say that would have had more of a hearing had it not taken such an ideological and confrontational position denying the extent of racism.

It is obviously true that there are many factors involved in racial disparities which explain some of the differences between ethnic groups. But it is odd to recognise that there is lots of overt racism but claim it doesn’t lead to systemic/institutional/structural racism

I am also struck by the fact that a number of its recommendations imply that there *is* a problem. Why retrain police, 'open up' apprenticeships, investigate health disparities etc unless there is some underlying institutional issue?
