People in supermarkets & other key workers do deserve more, but to equate them with nurses working with death every day for over a year is frankly ridiculous Claire Fox.
If they are in private sector they should go to their employers and ask for more. This is public sector

A more nuanced approach is I think required here, nurses & doctors require more, they deserve recognition, so do anyone else who is at risk: porters, cleaners, technicians, teachers, teaching assistants, cooks, dinner duty staff, essential workers, bus & train staff, & all....

twitter character limits don't allow for nuance! My point (I think!) was that there is a distinct difference between NHS staff working direct with sick and dying patients (often initially with inadequate PPE) & other key workers exposed to risk but more able to take precautions

... and then a 2ndary point that as taxpayers we can campaign on public sector pay more justifiably than on private sector, where the cost is a matter to be raised with commercial companies. Same with the to me ludicrous equivalence of private sector job losses with NHS pay.

There are many false equivalences, another is pensions, where public as compared with private is said to be gold plated, it isn’t. At the same time instead of raising standards up, we are confronted with levelling down to the lowest common denominator
