I can only imagine that in the quest to prove they were more Thatcherite than Thatcher, that New Labour saw relaxing gaming laws as proof of that. Utterly bonkers as well as letting rip with drinking laws that were fine as they were.

You are more generous than me - I thought it might be in exchange for donations from the industry - and its backers - for his office or the party. I have no evidence of that though and might be wrong. Repealing Thatcher’s union laws were however stopped by big party donors
