Who in their right mind would have booked a cruise in the midst of the 2nd Wave of COVID19

Madeira has just started accepting cruise ships, with lots of onboard testing before allowing passengers to disembark. Thousands of Madeirans are literally penniless and have no gov support and utterly depend on tourists. I suspect it's the same in the Caribbean.

Sadly they may end up both penniless and ill. There is no need to restart cruises - governments need to support people. Madeira is I think the second richest region in Portugal - so there is wealth on the island but its regional govt chooses not to tax and redistribute wealth

I have a family member there and the vast majority of people who live there are not 'rich'. Ex-pats who've retired there and don't need to work have no worries, but locals do have extreme worries. Their furloughs etc ran out about a month ago.

But I’d still say it’s no reason to restart cruises that will infect the island. Regional government should intervene. Apparently only 90 cases to date there - one shipload could jeopardise the most vulnerable

People on board are being tested before being allowed to disembark.

They did in other settings in wave 1 - testing isn’t 100% accurate. It shouldn’t have gone ahead
