In Wales supermarkets are using discretion on a case by case basis where a non-essentials become essential. It’s been fine for 17 days with us and these same supermarkets will do the same. A fuss about nothing

It’s not necessary. It just adds to the burden already placed on us and supermarket staff. You’re in the supermarket, it’s open for business. So what the hell is the problem. Just the government grandstanding again

It has two parts - 1. It tries to protect independent non-essential retailers losing sales (indeed independent shops asked for it) 2. A reduced range of goods reduces time in store and hopefully frequency of visits Its not a big deal - we've done it for 17 days with few problems
