In direct contrast (rebuttal?) to Corbyn’s response Starmer says “the reports conclusions are stark- they leave no room for equivocation.”

Starmer: “I found this report hard to read. And it is a day of shame for the Labour Party. We have failed Jewish people. Our members. Our supporters and the British public. On behalf of the Labour Party I am truly sorry for all the pain and grief that has been caused.”

Starmer: “The Labour Party I lead accepts this report in full and without qualification. We will implement all of its recommendations and we will implement them in full. That process starts today.“

Starmer: “under my leadership zero tolerance of anti-Semitism will mean exactly that. If you’re anti-Semitic you should be nowhere near this party.“

After his statement this surely aimed at Corbyn: “if after all the pain, all the grief and all the evidence in this report there are still those who think that there’s still no problem, that it’s all exaggerated or factional attack: then frankly you are part of the problem too.”

-rhetorically, couldn’t be more powerful. Clearly aimed at Corbyn and those around him and their (anticipated?) response -but KS did sit in Corbyn’s shadow cabinet, all of this was well known -but EHRC says things may have improved but not gone far enough under him

Starmer is going to have to answer how he squares this circle KS:Those who think there's no problem, that it's all exaggerated or a factional attack... you are part of the problem too." Corbyn: "the scale of the problem was also dramatically overstated for political reasons"

These responses are pretty curt and brief from Starmer.

Problem for Starmer reiterating that this was a collective failure, rather than one of Corbyn specifically is that a) he looks defensive of the thing he’s seeking to draw a line under b) it underplays a crucial factor that anyone familiar with this sorry saga knows...

...much of the difficulty (specifically related to apologies and the infamous IHRA episode) does go back to Corbyn himself. Often his advisers wanted to draw a line under one episode or another but it was Corbyn’s intransigence which prevented them from so doing.
