These excuses come from people who actively helped to elect a prime minister who was clearly unsuited to office. That's on them, and no amount of disingenuous storytelling is going to change it.

It is particularly unfortunate that we have covid happening under his watch. But you don't elect someone expecting everything will be ok. You elect them to handle crises.

How do you think May and Cameron would have handled it?

Both better, Cameron still badly, May quite well. The person you'd want in charge is Brown, I think.

Brown would have saved the world, not just the UK. That’s what he does.pic.twitter.com/cghbmBTQIf

Brown doesn’t get the praise he deserves. Incredibly hard working, driven, intelligent, decent and actually wanted to do good. I think we were lucky to have him during the financial crisis. He’d be all over the detail on the pandemic and the implementation of policy.

But don’t mention toxic PFI devastating out public services, billions wasted on those aircraft carriers he ordered and his infamous quote ‘the end of boom and bust’

I find it strange that some on the left choose to constantly slate the last Labour government for what it got wrong, yet never mention what it got right. You wouldn’t find the Tories doing that. That’s probably one of the reasons why they win so often.pic.twitter.com/yQWZhlVenU

I was giving balance - as it had turned into an imbalanced celebration of how everything was so wonderful. Lots of good was achieved but there were some almighty mistakes - and I didn’t even mention Iraq in my last tweet

Why even do it though? Labour not in Govt for over 10 years.

Because our NHS and schools are saddled with unaffordable PFI contracts that Brown pushed. Are you involved with schools, NHS or emergency services today having the cut frontline services to pay for exorbitant PFI contracts and keep the profits of the City sky high
