What do you consider to be the disadvantages from your own perspective please Kevin?

As outlined in Elfyn’s report it’s our economic / fiscal unreadiness, the need for public service cuts / tax hikes isn’t a price worth paying at this point. It’s as practical as that. I have no fear that Wales can stand as an independent nation but it must have a sound economy

Diolch Kevin for replying. Would it be possible for you to elaborate on your points there please? I’d be very interested to know what will make, in your opinion, our economy equipped to be independent? Where does our economy to be in your mind? What would you require to 1/2>

Somewhere close to us achieving continuity of public services provision funded via enhanced tax receipts through a stronger economy. Many small nations have taken decades to achieve a strong economy. Some rely on being international tax havens, whereas i want an ethical Wales

Thats a chicken, egg scenario. Based on extremely suspect economic figures. All Westminster has to do is keep telling us how we’re poor, keep us poor by screwing the economy to suit the south east of England. GERW is based on extremely suspect guesstimates from the Treasury.

I understand that but if you provide me with 100% reliable counter data that we are frighteningly rich in Wsles I won’t believe you

Can’t be done. We can ask why other small nations do very well in Northern Europe but we can’t? Even with suspect figures we do better than many other nations as we now are under the yoke of Westminster! This is revealing?pic.twitter.com/XzepfeglO2

You know per capita GDP is the relevant measure here. Some are outliers who thrive on international tax avoidance (hence my ethical comment). Worth noting the economic trajectory of many of these nations in their first 20-30 years of independence. No spin - just facts needed

As part of the ‘Union’ our gdp per capita is low as is economic activity. We have a higher % of OAPs than UK. Many of these are expat retirees whose pensions & health care comes out of our budget. We pay more per capita for defence than any other European or UK nation & so on.

I wouldn’t argue with those points, but back to Elfyn’s report we need answers before proceeding. This cannot be Brexit v2.0 He is respected beyond party allegiances and as with Yes Cymru those wanting independence need to build progressive alliances not alienate the curious

I apologise if I was alienating you. Certainly not my intention. I’m a little exasperated that you continually refuse to accept that independence is normal. Why would we not be able to support ourselves like others nations with less advantages do?

I respect your views on a default independence position, but you need to understand the majority aren’t there yet. Elfyn’s approach reaches out to the many not the few. Change management shows you can only move as quickly people are willing to. Not an excuse for inaction though
