They are Frances - but I for one believed him when he said he wanted to unite party. He’s going about it in a very odd way with his pattern of sackings - eg PPSs last night. Not a great look. It doesn’t show strong leadership it demonstrates intolerance of principled politicians

I think he wants a cabinet that isn't being disloyal. Sackings are inevitable with that style of leadership. I don't blame him and Corbyn demanded the same.

Disloyal? Voting on key principles of human rights - on those issues you don’t Whip. He’s managed to upset many in his party and gained nothing tactically over the Tories. His naivety sees the Tories criticise his line on abstention as much as they would outright opposition.

Did you demand loyalty of Labour MPs when Corbyn was leader? Did you refer to mass principled resignations as a "coup"?

Your trying to get away from my question, were they principled human rights issues?

Yes, given that he presided over the Labour Party when Brexit was being decided and when we suffered an attack on our soil of a Russian dissident.

Your still trying to distract from my point. Your tweet below would put a principled you on the same side as the three who were sacked last night - if you were a PPS should you have been sacked for your principled views? https://twitter.com/francesweetman/status/1282606946047143936?s=21 …https://twitter.com/francesweetman/status/1282606946047143936 …

Did I say anywhere the left politicians who voted with their conscience shouldn't do so? I actually agree with their stance on their legislation. I just also think that taking a front bench position means taking on board that responsibility. You can't have your cake and eat it.

I disagree - politicians lacking principles has got us in the mess we are in as country. Anyone willing to sell out their principles to get a govt position doesn’t deserve one. Take care

As I said, it feels like a long time ago that I voted for Kier. I now believe we need proportional representation like NZ and Denmark if we are to have a country where bad men don’t get into power on 44% of the vote.

I think I’m belatedly coming round to PR as a way forward

I actually agree with this. Any electoral system has problems but I think our system should aim to be fair and representative. If that means unstable coalitions, then so be it

Certainly in Wales the hybrid FPTP / PR system has delivered stability along with relatively progressive coalitions. Sadly the PR element has provided seats for some extreme views and behaviours - but that’s the price we pay for democracy. It just reflects what we see in society
