Will @MattHancock @Conservatives now give all of us whose phones can't use this app, a grant to pay for new ones? Seriously, this can't work if citizens don't have the technology to use it. It shows how out of touch this government is with its own citizens .@RosieDuffield1

It’s the wrong technology solution. Every new govt project undertakes an equality impact assessment - including digital and financial exclusion. Should have been picked up before development started. Govt should issue free phones or other devices to those who need

Why weren’t you saying this six months ago? At least they’re finally using the data protection version that everyone else used six months ago. It’s the right solution. But not the only one. I’m very surprised at you

Well, I’d have thought non smart phone users would have crossed minds. But we all expected a working non-phone track and trace testing regime to be up six months ago too. Two can only work hand in hand. Smart phone adoption is very high tho.

Smart phone adoption is at around 87%. iPhone is at around 46% and of that 5% is iPhone 5 usage. (Took ages to look all that up) so (math) just under 85% can use app. That’s a good penetration

Apparently still 3 million iPhone6 users in the UK (plus those phones older than this) plus the older Samsung/Android models - a big number and more concentrated amongst older users (key for COVID19 risks)

3.8% of all smart phone users use iPhone 6. Were still around 80% of population able to use app which is still very good.

Is 3 million phones 3.8%? Does that mean there are 95 million phones in the UK? I don’t know the answer just asking
