The farce is that there has neve been any question about left people liking their own country. What patriotism has been converted into is slavish acceptance that as a country we can do no wrong. This is how all criticism ultimately gets censored.

I agree with you entirely ... but the way it was packaged under Corbyn made it far too easy for the RWM to trash it. They will find it a lot harder with Starmer (although they will certainly try).

It may remove some of the negativity but it won't get Starmer a majority. It looks weak and pathetic to many people. If it was that critical, Starmer, and Labour would be miles ahead in the poles given the unprecedented mess the Tories are making.

He did better PMQs just now but still can’t deliver a killer punch. Debating points are good but you have to deliver the final blow. He doesn’t seem able to. As much as I dislike Blair he could do this

This is where I think Starmer's handlers have got it all wrong. Blair had charisma and extraordinary acting skills. Despite moving to the right he always hammered at the tories. Fooled me for sure but Starmer has none of Blair's abilities. Even Ed M outdid theócurrent LOTO

Starmer spent years developing the skills to build up an argument over time so that at the point in time a judge or jurors had to decide, they fell on his side. And the sincerity and values have four years to come through, and they will.

The problem is before the CPS, his skills were nurtured over many years on pints of law in the Court of Appeal and Lords- a very genteel environment and unlike the robustness of most criminal courts. He needs the latter to deal with criminal Johnson

There is a lesson to be learned from the Brexit bus and Get Brexit Done. However well qualified KS is as a lawyer, he is a babe in the woods compared to a brutal campaigner like Cummings or Campbell. Indeed, Farage too knew how to exploit the anger that exists here since 2008.

That’s the problem - he’s no political street fighter

This is a point I've made regularly. He has had no experience of coming through the ranks of the party where those skills are learned. His rise has been handed to him by circumstances where he should have been on the backbenches 10 years first.

Agreed. It’s the Jo Swinson factor - you need to make your political mistakes when no one is looking not when you are an inexperienced leader in the limelight

Corbyn was thrown in the deep end, made some errors of course but by and large got into the swing quickly despite all the opposition against him. There's no substitution for miles on the clock in politics.

And what were the miles that Milne and Lansman brought to the table ?
