Those countries locked down really hard to keep the hot spots isolated - we’ve had UK wide spread in a way they haven’t as the govt hasn’t taken it seriously. Filling care homes up with COVID patients not the brightest idea

Spain's daily figures are too low on about 90% of data because they have a crazy counting system - only people who died that day and had their death cert processed are included (1 or 2 in Madrid). Every 7-10 days they have a catchup with ~500 deaths. It's completely absurd.

It illustrated a point for me, but it’s excess deaths internationally that are providing the nearest thing to the truth. Are you following
@jburnmurdoch at the@FT ? He’s doing some good stuff1 antwoord 0 retweets 1 vind-ik-leuk -
Yes and no. Agree with you about the excess deaths but I object to the way the virus has been turned into a sort of "trends for sports nerds" column. Much of the breathless interpretation of the numbers has been little more than tealeaf reading.

I agree. My go to is always the @FT @jburnmurdoch and @ChrisGiles_ on this plus - plus obviously @ONS who I respect totally
