My point is, the membership allowed the Right to trounce the Left. However bad that Left was. And is. Worse than if it was rigged.

No surprise to me. The new members failed to turn up & vote at CLP level. Change to the inherent Blairite party skeleton was never challenged at roots level. Hence the failure to deselect the likes of Phillips & Smeeth. The left only has its own inertia to blame.

We agree then. It will take another 40 years to see a Socialist leader again, if ever.

Within Labour, the opportunity has certainly gone. What many of us had failed to realise was the extent that Blair/Mandelson had managed to infiltrate all the structures of the Party with their people & maintain a steady stream of replacements as necessary. Both genius & tragedy.

Yes, who would have thought they were looking so far ahead as to prevent socialism for the foreseeable future? Genius indeed. Which is what makes me sure I need to desert this corrupted party. But where to? I really don’t know.

It's easy to forget just how thorough was the New Labour Project. Everyone had to be "on message" Corbyn was a rare rebel because he had a safe seat & no ambition for advancement within the Party or indeed Government. As for the future, hopefully a new Dem Soc Party will emerge.

Don’t know I’ve the luxury of time. Corbyn such a breath of fresh air - someone who actually represented what I believed in. A new party is such a long-term enterprise. I’m thinking of the Greens? If not I think I’ll just have to become a full time cynic and to hell with them all

Come and join me in the Greens. Not a socialist party, but with a lot of socialist policies (more than Labour, even last year...) and could also do with a few more socialists in it. Much better than not being in a political party at all!

Not much better than Labour as it stands then. Could do with a 'few more'.... charming.

Also a much less toxic political atmosphere internally than Labour, as denonstrated above.

I’m sure at grass roots level the Green Party is as variable as Labour. In my CLP we have very good relations with members from all wings of the party. All parties have tensions though - like members leaving the Greens after the Lib Dem electoral alliance at GE2019
